On sunny September 7th the Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation – Fighting Leukaemia, founded by Tony & Maggie Rizzo, invited 16 families with children suffering from leukaemia and being treated at the Royal Marsden, to a fun filled day at Hobbledown Adventure Park in Surrey.

This year Butterflies for Occasions kindly donated 50 Butterflies for the children and their families on this special day. The ‘Painted Ladies’ were presented in delicate little boxes tied with orange ribbon & a poem was read as they were released to the delight of the youngsters. Throughout the day the children had the opportunity to watch a Birds of Prey Display, Otter & Meerkat feeding as well as taking part in activities including High ropes, Zorbing, Archery & digging for crystals.

Towards the end of the day everyone came together in the tepee as one big family for a Hobbler Tea party where the children were joined by a Dragon & a ‘Flower Lady’ & then presented with special goodie bags. One of the mothers said ‘My 8 year old gets very upset that lately my son who has leukaemia, gets to do a lot of exciting things, so it’s nice for him to know he’s not being left out. I really do believe siblings go through just as much as oncology children if not more, being left for long periods while the family are away so a big thank you the Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation’.

The Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation has worked tirelessly for a remarkable 37 years raising funds, mainly from the generous hairdressing industry. Every year, donations support invaluable research into finding a cure for Leukaemia and also help to support families suffering the effects of dealing with this cruel illness. Alternative Hair Charitable Foundation is very grateful to all the sponsors for their generous donations which made this day possible.

A special thanks to Mauro Carraro & Paloma Casey for filming and photography; Hobbledown for helping organise this event, Royal Marsden for Family Liason & Nominations and Francesca for coordinating.
